Climate: In general we have warm summers and cool winters. Our summers are cooler than those on the continent, but the winters are milder. The overall climate in England is called temperate maritime. This means that it is mild with temperatures not much lower than 0ºC in winter and not much higher than 32ºC in summer.
Religions: The UK's official religion is Christianity, and churches of all denominations can be found throughout the UK, such as Catholic, Protestant, Baptist and Methodist. The main other religions are Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, Judaism and Buddhism.
Main industries: The service sector of the economy as a whole is now the largest in England, with manufacturing and primary industries in decline. The only major secondary industry that is growing is the construction industry, fuelled by economic growth provided mainly by the growing services, administrative and financial sector.
Traditional dishes: Toad-in-the-Hole (sausages covered in batter and roasted), Roast Meats, Ploughman's Lunch, Cottage Pie, Bangers and Mash (mashed potatoes and sausages), Black Pudding.
Fun Fact: There is an annual Cheese Rolling Competition. The first written evidence is a message from 1826, but it’s said that the cheese roll tradition is older than that. Nowadays even international visitors can take part in this fascinating event.
