Wilco and Lydia Venter

Wilco and Lydia Venter are the directors of YASHA Ministry in Nakuru. They have established three schools in the areas of Teret, Taita and Baraka (forest areas), that run the ACE education programme. Through the YASHA Hope Centre, Wilco and Lydia also help orphans and single mums and widows with children, street children as well as needy families. They run a guesthouse, do recycled art and make hand-made soap to help raise funds for the ministry.

Ministry Base: In 2017 the Lord provided a raw ¼ acre piece of land in Kenya where we want to establish a base for the ministry. We would love to develop a place where leaders can be trained, youth conferences and camps can be held as well as provide a place where people in ministry can come for short retreats.

Initially we’ll move to an old mud building that side, until we can erect ourselves a house for our family. This will save costs, eliminate travelling and cause us to be more hands-on in the development of the land. However, this structure needs urgent attention to make it habitable. God already provided a water tank as well as the funds to fence off the property – it looks great! We are so grateful.

Community Projects: Lomolo is a new settlement that lacks many things: There is no electricity or sufficient water to serve the people of the village. Although there is a primary school, there is no nursery school, with the result that small children roam around aimlessly during the day.

One of the first things we want to do, is build a small library to help develop a reading culture amongst the young ones, especially during holiday times. Many children in Kenya have learning disabilities, like dyslexia, Language (or Auditory) Processing Disorder and ADHD. The ACE program that we use in our nursery schools in Teret and Baraka, do wonders in helping children establish a strong foundation.

We’ve also been making bricks from recycled plastic since 2012, so another goal is to build an art studio (made with these recycled bricks) where the ladies from the area can be taught how to make arts and crafts from recycled materials. The village is surrounded by sisal plantations, so we’d like to include that in the process of empowering these women who must work very hard to care for their families.

In general
• For a continuous and fresh outpouring of God’s Spirit on our marriage, family and ministry.
• For God’s divine provision and wisdom … Although this new season in Lomolo is very exciting, it is also scary and a huge responsibility to accurately tap from the heart of Father God, and then execute it according to His pattern and plan.

WE URGE YOU TO PRAY FOR THE ABOVE AND TO HELP US REACH THE COMMUNITY OF LOMOLO FOR CHRIST THROUGH THE VARIOUS INITIATIVES THAT HE HAS PLACED IN OUR HEARTS.

We welcome any individual or group who would like to come and help us in YASHA Ministry International, whether it’s short or long term. Different serving opportunities are available, for example teaching (both adults and in a nursery school set-up), evangelism and admin. We would also welcome any practical help, especially now since starting to develop the land in Lomolo.
