A poem which does not have regular rhyme or meter is said to be in free-verse. Through this poets feel liberated in thoughts and change it accordingly as it does not follow any set of rules in construction. Free verse contains combinations of literary devices such as onomatopoeia and alliteration. It has been said to be a modern style of writing, instead, it has existed for hundreds of years.
Poems such as Fog by Carl Sandburg, After the Sea-Ship by Walt Whitman are few examples of free verse.
